I am writing to share my journey living with von Hippel-Lindau (VHL) syndrome since my diagnosis in 2012. While this condition has significantly impacted my life, it does not define who I am.
Throughout my treatment at one of the UK’s leading clinics, I have undergone five brain surgeries, spinal surgery, a kidney transplant, and multiple eye surgeries. Currently, I am recovering from radiotherapy for brain nodules and navigate life with vision loss in my left eye and deafness in my left ear. Despite these challenges, I remain a very active and resilient individual. My passion for travel, cooking, and socializing remains unchanged, as does my commitment to supporting NHS charities as a gesture of gratitude for my care. I continue to pursue adrenaline-based activities, including skydiving, abseiling, and trekking, recently completing a trek in Cambodia to demonstrate that VHL does not limit one’s potential.
I believe that living with VHL is a unique experience, and I remain dedicated to my charity work and to living a full, adventurous life.
