As I am now the prime age of 22 I have decided to do something worthwhile and try and run a long distance to raise some money for charity. I have decided to fundraise for VHL UK/Ireland, which is a charity for those affected by von Hippel-Lindau (VHL) syndrome. This is a rare genetic disorder that runs in my family, which is why I would like to support it. Additionally the gene that is involved in VHL is also involved in more common cancers, so it is thought that if the mutation that causes VHL can be overcome then they might be able to do the same for other cancers. I would like to raise some money to fund research as well as raise awareness about the disease.
I will be running 26.2 miles around my new home Edinburgh, around extinct volcanoes and golf courses.
